Le Banana visited the inaugural installation of The Broad, the new contemporary art museum of LA, founded in September 2015 by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad and located in a modern and unorthodox building called “the veil”, designed by the architecture and design studio Diller Scofidio + Renfo.

Art invades The Broad from the very outside, with a brutalist white metallic perforated façade. Inside, the rooms of the three floors show a permanent collection of more than 2000 works of art of 200 artists. Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, and Roy Liechtenstein are some of the famous names of The Broad.

The inaugural installation goes through more than 250 paintings, sculptures, and photographs of artists such as Japanese Takashi Murakami; major artists who came to prominence in the 1950s, including Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, y Cy Twombly; the pop art of the 1960s, represented through works of Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, y Andy Warhol; and some other renowned creators such as Christopher Wool, Jean-Michel Basquiat, y Joseph Beuys.

There also stands out Yayoy Kusama’s installation, called “Infinity Mirrored Room—The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away”, an experiential artwork in a mirror-lined chamber housing a dazzling and seemingly endless LED light display.
