Testino’s surname is already an icon in the fashion industry. The great photographer Mario Testino has transformed his art into a symbol of haute couture. But the legacy is spreading and now it is his niece, the model Marina Testino, who is leaving her own mark.
Today in Le Banana we speak with Marina, a future fashion icon.
How would you define yourself?
As a very creative person. I am always looking for new challenges or adventures. I love travelling and experiencing new things: cultures, food, places…
What triggers your creatitivy?
Colors and personalities.
Two of your passions are photography and fashion, what is what you enjoy the most of them?
In fact, what I love the most are trips and art. When you travel you learn a lot and that is priceless. Art is fascinating, it is a unique form of expression, it has many shapes and colors and it can be interpreted in many possible ways. The coincidence of two identical works of art is impossible and I love it.
Which is your favorite social media and why?
Instagram. There is a lot of creative freedom and that cannot be seen in any other social media. Each profile has its own identity, its own content, its own voice, its own colors, and its own story. I love profiles where aesthetics prevails and those guided by a color palette.
How would you define your style? Is there a piece of advice that someone has given to you and that you still keep?
I believe that each person has to be comfortable to feel good. If you wear uncomfortable high heels or clothes that don’t fit you, not only will you feel uncomfortable but other people will perceive that too. Fashion changes all the time. I would say that my style is Street Chic, a combination between Street and Parisian style.
Which is your beauty routine?
To sleep! (Laughters). In fact, I love sleeping and I really need it. I was the typical student who would go to sleep no matter who I had to do. My sleeping hours are really really important.
Which is your favorite city and why?
New York! It is the city where I was born and where I came back to study at Parsons. I love NY. I recognize that it can be stressing but it is always alive. I travel a lot and when I arrive to a city where you can’t go for a drink or hang out at any time I get bored. In NY you can plan anything at any time, besides, it is a cosmopolitan city and I love it.
Do you get on well with your uncle, Mario Testino, one of the most renowned photographers of the fashion industry?
We see each other quite often. Sometimes I see him more than my parents. He travels a lot to NY and we usually meet for dinner or breakfast.
You studied a lot to belong to this industry, you went to Northeastern University and you studied Fashion Marketing at Parsons. What do you value the most of those years?
I am really grateful for having had the chance of assisting to those Colleges. I met incredible people there and I am sure they will be life time friends. The professors were also awesome, they taught with love and they helped me to grow and learn. Truth is I’ve been lucky for having met them.
This year The Society Management , one of the most important fashion agencies of the World included you in their Creatives How does it feel to belong to a place where there are names as important as Kendall Jenner or Adriana Lima?
I am really happy. Society is one of the few agencies with a Creative Rooster for 360 talents, that is, for people that are much more than a beautiful face. There are incredible people in that agency and it is an honor to belong to it.
Have you ever visited Argentina?
I haven’t had the pleasure yet. I hope I can visit it soon!
Which are your projects for the future?
Now I am in working in Peru, producing a new capsule in Point Off View, and I am also interviewing Peruvian artists to know about their art and why they chose to become artists.
Which are your dreams for this 2018?
I just dream that it will be a year full of surprises!
Enjoy.
