It’s no news that Vanesa Krongold has become one of the best models of Latin America fashion around the world. Nueva York, Berlin, London and México are just some of the countries she has conquered with her stamps, sublimation, techie style and eclecticism. We talked with her and she told us details of her last collections, her relationship with Asian world, and her plans for the future.
What can you tell us about your latest collection?
I’ll give you some big news… the new collection is a collaboration with Complot! It is a great challenge and a perfect opportunity to grow. I am each day more convinced that collections do not need to respect a set season but rather be relevant… that when you see them you think: I love this, I want to wear this, it’s of good quality, it’s impressive” I am looking for that more than anything else.
How do you manage to work with a commercial brand considering that you are an independent designer?
I love challenges; it’s a way of learning. This challenges me to think how to show an idea in a drawing that is clear for others even for marketing teams. Finding that balance is a great experience, I growing a lot and OI love that.
Which items are going to be at the center?
We are working on a basic line that includes exaggerated basic pieces o clothing. Huge stamped T-shirts and sweatshirts are at the center. There are also some exclusive dresses. It is a big collection, with fifteen outfits.
What did you show in New York?
We showed a capsule collection for Epson, which took me there to represent Argentina. We were about fifteen Latin American designers. It was a collection inspired by Japan. All the stamps are pictures that I took in temples mixed with a kaleidoscope that I found inside a museum. The shapes are also very Asian.
What did you feel when you visited Japan?
I couldn’t believe that my clothes were so close to that culture, to that country. I had always been told that my designs were close to Japanese culture but I had never thought it was so true. The shapes of my designs, the idea that a woman does not have to show her body to be self-confident, the layers, the colors…everything I saw in Japan has to do with my creations. Besides, urban tribes are so clear in Japan; the identity of each person is really well defined from top to bottom and that is great. And there is also a perfect balance between technology and nature and that is great for fashion design.
Have you about the chance of selling Vanesa Krongold in some other country?
I would love to sell it in Japan.
And you think you’ll have that chance?
Yes, I think so…But I also felt that Japan is a place that you have to know and understand before…I believe you need to understand what women want there, what they look for…but of course that selling there is a possibility.
Do you feel that Argentine people understand your designs?
I believe they do. I don’t think that Argentine people started to buy m clothes because I sold them in London, Mexico or Berlin. Argentina and Buenos Aires opened me the doors first. I have clients that come back for the fifth time and that want to buy my clothes. It is an enclosed public but one that I admire, my clients are creative women who I looked at and make me think: “I wish I were you”. Nowadays when I look at my clients I see a projection of my inner self and that is great and push me to move on.
