The “Eternal Beauty” exhibition of the Pirelli Calendar brings together more than 300 photographs that show the paradigm changes of the image in the last five decades. You can see in the Art Factory until March 3
Picture the best works of art by Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber, Peter Beard, Patrick Demarchelier or Steven Meisel. Imagine now what if their muses were Uma Thurman, Yoko Ono, Patti Smith, Penelope Cruz or Nicole Kidman. Now imagine that you don´t need to travel to any museum to see these picture but just take a ride to a couple of neighborhoods away and you could see these in your city. Voilá.
The Government of the city of Buenos Aires, the Italian Embassy in Argentina and the Italian Culture Institute of Buenos Aires brought Pirelli´s “Eternal Beauty” to the Usina del Arte. With free admission, Pirelli opens its five decades archives under the selection by the curators Walter Guadagnini and Amedeo Turello.
The exhibition is organized chronologically with each section representing a decade. In striking fashion productions and black and white portraits, the aim of “Eternal Beauty” is to portray the women´s image and its evolution, from the calendar creation, in 1964, till now. Also, it shows the transformation of how women were and are considered – from objects to subjects – in our society and how fashion tends towards a more inclusive place.
Classic among classics, the Pirelli Calendar became an object of desire for by photography, fashion and art lovers. The photographers involved in this project have been able to show the social and cultural impact of each decade, anticipate new trends and show how women evolved more and more into an active subject of history and never again as an object of admiration or desire as it was portrayed in its first editions.
