Taking a break to have a coffee after going around a place is part of the charm of travelling; but in Sydney it’s also a must because in the last few years, coffee has become an Australian tradition of which no one can get out of.

When we visited the city, we went to SurryHills, its hipster neighborhood, characterized by its art galleries, its photography studies, its museums, and its coffee stores, and we seized the opportunity to relish exquisite coffees that are just as good as those of coffee grower countries. Here our favorite!

Bourke Street Bakery:

This coffee store has become a symbol in Sydney. It is a small corner with just three tables where, no matter the time of the day, there is always a long queue of people waiting to have their place.

The spot was created in 2014 by Chefs Paul Allam and David McGuinness, who promote the idea that everything must be home-made and made with love. And, thanks t their work and dedication, the place is now a landmark of good coffee.

The coffee they offer is delicious and it has an unforgettable aroma. Bakery is also irresistible and exquisite. We can’t recommend just one thing to eat because everything is pure perfection.

The Book Kitchen:

Exactly in front of Bourke Street Bakery there stands this coffee store whose philosophy is that each client feels as if he were at his home and that the place be a meeting point, with good food, for people to talk for a while, work, or chat.

The place, founded in 2010 by Amelia and Davis Birch, has group tables and a hipster atmosphere typical of the neighborhood.

The Book Kitchen is well-known for its delicatessen, its salads and its good coffee. Besides, you can buy fresh products specially made by them.

Gnome Café:

This is another place worth visiting in SurryHills: a small corner with huge open windows that give the spot a summer-like friendly atmosphere.

Although the menu does not include a lot of meals, the options they offer are delicious and perfect for any time of the day. Salads and hamburgers are really tasty.

Coffee is one of our suggestions here and if you choose to eat a pear muffin, much better!
