Chicago, also known as the “Windy City”, is one of the most important of the United States and the third one in population density. It is perfect for those who want to enjoy delicious food, but also for those who love architecture, art, history, design and culture.

If you are thinking of visiting this city, we suggest that you don’t miss these attractions. You will love them!

Cruise along Chicago River:

Declared as one of the 10th best tours in the United States by TripAdvisor, this cruise is perfect to know the architecture of the city and is more than interesting from the very first moment. The journey lasts about three hours and the guide, who has a certificate issued by the Chicago Architecture Foundation, goes through the different architectural styles of the city and tells the stories about the people that designed and built the city.

It is a unique experience with impressive panoramic views of the city.

Visit the Sky deck at Willis Tower:

If you like heights then this is for you! From floor 103th of Willis Tower you can look down from a glass cubicle and watch the buildings of the city, the river and, if the sky is clear, even the Michigan Lake in Indiana. Besides, visitors can feel how a building swings on a windy day.

When it was built, in 1973, the Willis Tower, also known as the Sears Tower, was the tallest building in the world and it was so for 20 years. Nowadays it is the third tallest building in the country and the tallest in Illinois.

It is an unforgettable experience not for the faint of heart!

Where?

43 East Ohio Street, Chicago.

Walk around the Magnificent Mile:

At the heart of Chicago, at the south of Michigan Avenue, there stands the Magnificent Mile, the avenue that offers more than 450 shops among which there are the most exclusive designers and the most traditional shops of the country.

The place is a great architectural attraction. Besides, especially in winter, trees and buildings are lit up with colorful lights: an awesome show.

Wicker Park:

To relax a little bit from the skyscrapers of downtown, nothing better than getting to know Wicker Park, the most hipster neighborhood of the city, 15 minutes away from the center of Chicago.

It is perfect o enjoy a brunch in some of the classic restaurants of the place and then walk around its enchanting streets. You can find record shops, vintage stores, barbershops, and typical places to have a delicious coffee. Don’t miss it; lose yourself in the neighborhood Bohemian!

Millennium Park:

The multi-awarded park is the most recreational and artistic of the city. Along its charming gardens there are many artworks; the Cloud Gate is one of them, a kind of curved Silver donut that reflects a part of the park and the city and where people have fun taking photos.

One of our favorite works of art is Crown Fountain, where the faces of different citizens are projected on two facing columns that are joined by a black granite swimming pool. People soak their feet and have fun with the streams of water that get out from the projections.

Besides, the open air amphitheater JayPritzker is an impressive artwork that can host seven thousand people and where people can enjoy free concerts.

Contemporary Art Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago:

These are two museums that must visit. The first one is a modern building where works of art such as those of Kerry James Marshal, the American artist that tells the history of the Afro-American culture through his art, are exhibited. Besides, you can have a coffee at a nice bar that faces the park: really cool.

The second one shows works of legendary artists such as Claude Monet, Renoir, and Vincent van Gogh. Don’t miss The Bedroom and Self Portrait, by Van Gogh, two classics of art history.

Buddy Guy’s Legends:

Chicago is the city of blues, that’s why you can’t miss Buddy Guy’s Legends.

A special place where you can enjoy a great variety of musicians with different styles and where you can also meet the blues legend and bar owner: Buddy Guy, an icon that inspired artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.

Sleep at van Gogh’s Bedroom:

Sleeping at a replica of Van Gogh’s bedroom can be a unique and unforgettable experience. Chicago gives you the chance of hiring this bedroom through Airbnb.com and sleeping inside a perfect replica decorated in a post impressionist style, with the same colors and the same furniture of the classic artwork.

Navy Pier:

This place is one of the great touristic attractions of the city. In summer, the cruises that go around Michigan Lake set sail from its dock. The fortune wheel called “The Ferris Wheel” works during the whole year and offers an amazing view of the city’s skyline.
