Apart from being a super model and a fashion icon, over the last years, the name of Daniela Urzi has also echoed in art galleries and photography exhibitions. And it’s because the other passion of the great model is photography, where she also reveals her glory and professionalism.
Her last series, I’m losing it, containing six photographs, arrived to one of the most renowned art exhibitions among the contemporary circuit: the Art Basel, in Miami. In this exclusive interview with Le Banana, she tells us everything about this series, her experience in this exhibition, and her plans for the future.
How did you create I’m Losing It? Why did you choose that title?
I always come up with ideas and in this particular case I wanted to communicate how news influences on people’s mood, that’s why I chose that title that means something like “I am losing my temper”.
What do you want to express through this photos in particular?
Just how we read and read the news and how this generates anxiety and makes people be covered up by newspapers. I wanted to show that outburst.

You constructed this series two years ago, why did you decide to exhibit it now?
Sometimes when we create a story, we have to wait till it reaches its perfect maturity and till it is really meaningful. This was the ideal time to exhibit the series due to current world events and all the things that are happening with mass media worldwide. Nowadays we can really see how people are affected by news.
How did you get to exhibit the series at the Art Basel?
I’ve just finished my Photo Studio. First, I wanted to exhibit it there, like an opening exhibition. Then, on December 5th, I took the works of art to Sammer Gallery, in Wynwood, to exhibit them to the public, and they will be there to be visited during the whole week.
How are you living the experience of exhibiting at the Art Basel for the first time?
Actually it is thrilling but also really tiring. There is a lot of hustle and bustle, but it pays off. A lot of people that do not live in Miami had the chance to see the series, and the photos are already sold out.
I am really happy, considering it was the first time at the Art Basel; it has been a real success!
How did the critics receive the series?
Critics have expressed an excellent opinion about the series. Actually, I didn’t expect that. People identified a lot with the story of the series and with its meaning.
Do you care about critics opinions?
Of course I do. I love learning, growing, and listening to every constructive opinion that can help me be better each day.
Last year you launched your first photography book, Teddy and I and it was a success, are you thinking of creating another book?
I don’t know. Maybe the opportunity might come in the future, but I don’t see it as my next project. Now that I finally have my Studio I want to keep on creating Fine Art series.
