Fashion is full of fetishes and objects of desire. In the last years, fashion books became more and more important and now they are key pieces in the livings rooms and bookcases of fashion lovers as study books, as objects of pleasure or as decorative elements.

That’s why in Le Banana we selected some books that you must have if you are a true fashionista. Let’s start!

The Rise of David Bowie, by Mick Rock – ED. Taschen

In 1972, David Bowie launched his greatest recording success and with it, it came to live Bowie’s alter ego: Stardust, characterized by flashy outfits, excess of make-up, and an ambiguous gender that moved all the time from male to female.

Mick Rock was Bowie’s official photographer during almost all his career and from that role he could immortalize every moment, every action, and every detail of the mythical and unique singer, creator and song writer. That treasure has now been captured in the book The Rise of David Bowie, a limited edition that shows the best of the life and work of the musician.

Something else?

From May 4th to May 28th, Mick Rock will be for the first time un Argentina to present Bowie by Mick Rock”, an exhibition of images, films, music and videos about the British genius and artist. The exhibition will be opened everyday at room 8 of La Rural land.

A Different Vision on Fashion Photography by Peter Lindbergh, –ED. Taschen

Peter Lindbergh became a creator of super models in 1989, when he took photos of girls on the street during a fashion week and he was then offered to illustrate the cover of British Vogue magazine with one of his photos, signaling the beginning of a completely new era in fashion photography.

The book, published on November 16th, is an exquisite collection of four decades of Lindbergh’s work shown over 400 XL photographs and 200 small pictures. His work reflects his realism when it comes to depicting beauty through iconic photos of some of his muses, such as Naomi CampbellCindy Crawford and Kate Moss –cover celebrity–. Besides, it includes commentaries from masters such as Anna Wintour, Jean Paul Gaultier and Grace Coddington, among others.

SIR, by Mario Testino  ED. Taschen

Testino is, without any doubt, the favorite photographer not only of the fashion industry but also of celebrities and the royalty.

In December, the artist launched SIR, his greatest work by now, a collection of more than 300 photographs that sum up what manliness means for him.

Mario Testino: “The way men are seen in photography, in fashion, and the way that men look at pictures of themselves has changed in recent years. It is a subject that has come into focus: The masculine image, a man’s personal style, and changing attitudes to the male face and body”.

And that is specifically the book’s central topic, a treasure that perfectly summarizes the thoughts of his creator.

The book has photographs of artists such as Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jude Law, David Beckham, David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, among others. One more detail? There are just 1000 thousand copies, all of them signed by Mario.

Naomi Campbell – ED. Taschen

Super model, businesswoman, and beauty icon are just some of the adjectives that describe the eternal Naomi Campbell.

With this book, Naomi launches her first graphic collection content, and she perfectly shows how she developed her career and her life.

The work has two volumes. The first one gathers the best photographs by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Steven Meisel, Patrick Demarchelier, Bruce Weber, Mario Testino and Ellen Von Unwerth, among others. The second one, apart from having a prologue written by Campbell herself, includes an exhibition of photos, campaigns, covers, and memories from her childhood. Both volumes merge art and fashion from top to bottom.

CR Fashion Book, Marie Antoinette  Issue 9

When Carine Roitfeld left her position as Vogue Paris’s editor-in-chief, thousands talked about her future, but just a few could say that she would create her own platform, CR, and that from there and its Issues, she would show the best of nowadays fashion world.

We love Issue N° 9 because it adapts the opulence, self-confident, and glamour of Maria Antoinette and it shows that through Rihanna’s body, under the eyes of Terry Richards and the styling of Carine: an exquisite mix.

Another detail? You can get each Issue at the online shop: http://www.crfashionbook.com-

SUMO, by Annie Leibovitz  ED. Taschen

Leibovitz pictures in SUMO 40 years of her successful career in the industry. The work is unique. Johnny Depp and Kate Moss on a bed, as a minimalist image, is just a part of the story, which also has a never before seen hug between John Lennon and Yoko 0no.

The book is a family album in which actors, models, dancers, celebs and musicians are together: a book to keep and collect.

One more thing? SUMO has to four different covers of 50 x 69 cm.

In Your Face & Kate Moss, by Mario Testino  ED. Taschen

Both of them are classic that can’t be out of your bookcase. They are part of the common ground of the industry.

In YourFace shows a series of celebrities that play with the photographer. Star Kate Moss, meanwhile, is a review of the woman that made fashion be a temple for rock.

Enjoy it!
