Cinema and fashion are great allies. Movies are a mirror where year after year we can discover styles and trends from all over the world.
2017 began with a varied billboard of premieres and in Le Banana we made a selection of films to tell you what each one of them leaves us about the fashion world.
La La Land
This film dominated the 2017 Golden Globes and tied a major Oscar record, earning 14 nominations – same as Titanic and All About Eve. The musical is a wonderful journey through the romance of Mia (Emma Stone) and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling). Glamour and veneration of the city of Los Angeles are the central themes of this film that brings back the magic and quality of a vintage movie an a real love in the millennial era.
The fashion manager of La La Land was Mary Zophres, who follows the precepts of vintage classic and timeless trends. Her muses? Grace Kelly, Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot, among others. Simple and clean lines is what Zophres chooses for Emma Stone. Halter necklines and floaty skirts are style keys that Mia (Emma) lets you glimpse. Although there are also bets on more informal looks and that is where we can see the timelessness. Who was Mary Zophres‘s collaborator? Emma Stone herself.

Fifty Shades Darker
Christian Gray (Jamie Dorman) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) return with Fifty Shades Darker. It is the second part of the trilogy Fifty Shades of Gray, the novel by British writer E.L James. Its first release will be on Valentine’s Day and it promises to wipe out the box office. Nick Jonas, Taylor Swift along with Zayn and The Weeknd, among others, are in charge of giving voice to the music of the film.
Costumes in the story are crucial and every detail is important. The person in charge of translating this spirit to the movie was the designer Mark Bridges. In these 50 Shadows Darker fashion is a constant worship of glamor and luxury. The goal of Bridges is to transmit through each garment the essence of each scene. On this occasion, we will continue to see Christian (Jamie) in splendid tailored made costumes signed by Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton. Although this part also incorporates more informal looks, without leaving its classic side: those in charge of achieving this are Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. While the adorable Anastasia (Dakota) is surrounded by lavish dresses and masks. Marchesa, Dior, Alexander McQueen and Loewe, among others, are the firms responsible for giving the aesthetic required by the script.

Jackie
Elegance, luxury, ancestry, aristocracy, loves and passions surrounded Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, a woman who left her stamp not only in the United States but also in an entire generation and who became a legendary fashion icon. Natalie Portman is responsible for bringing Jackie to life and they could not have chosen someone better.
In the film, costumes are everything. Designer Madeline Fontaine was in charge of creating every detail of Mrs. Kennedy’s tyle and that’s why she was nominated for an Oscar. Classic looks, A-cut dresses, three-quarter sleeves blazers, two-piece costumes, pillbox hats, and other Jackie symbols can be seen all along the film. Chanel and Dior, the favorites of the authentic Mrs. Kennedy,are the «common currency» signatures – as defined by Fontaine- in the movie.

The Beauty and the Beast
If we talk about classics, we can’t miss this one produced by great Disney. Emma Watson is Bella; Dan Steven, The Beast; and Luke Evans, Gaston. They are the ones in charge of giving life to this children’s story that charmed a whole generation.
Several styles are mixed in this film that promises to be a blockbuster, and, at least by what can be seen in the trailer, they took into account every single detail.
